Welcome to St Nicolas Preschool's website and thank you for taking the time to visit our site.
St Nicolas Preschool is a registered charity and is managed by a new committee of volunteers each year. Generally the committee members are parents but grandparents and carers are welcomed and encouraged to be involved. On a day to day basis our pre-school is run by Gaynor Hunter who has 12 years experience in early years education.
At St Nicolas Preschool and Playgroup we aim to enhance the development and education of children under the statutory school age within a community based group. We aim to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment and ensure equality of opportunity for all children and their families.
8.45am-11.45am 12.15pm-3.15pm 8.45am-2.45pm 8.45am-3.15pm
Up to 30 hours may be funded (max. 6 hours per day). Additional or unfunded hours are charged at £16.50 per three hour session. Extended sessions (8.45-3.15) incur an additional £3.50 per day. Lunch club is available for £3.50.
We offer an environment where children can enjoy fun and friendship with other children, and adults. Children will be supported to develop their potential at their own pace, with the use of appropriate indoor and outdoor play activities. We have our own enclosed garden, which we continue to develop. In line with government guidance we use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum (introduced Sept 2012) working towards the Early Learning Goals. This curriculum continues in the Reception class in primary schools.
We are able to offer an adult to child ratio that is higher than legal requirements. Each child will have a Key person - a specific adult who will take a special interest in your child - keeping a confidential progress file, assessing and recording your child's achievements and abilities, and using these to plan an individual programme. The report is handed on to the School of your choice. All other documents are given to you at the end of your time with us. Copies of the report will be given to parents for their contribution.
All staff have a enhanced DBS. The chairperson has a suitability check from previous chair and the Supervisor/Manager has clearance from OFSTED. We follow the Oxfordshire policy regarding Safeguarding Children.
We have a full complaints policy. This should be followed if you have any concerns about preschool or staff. [This can be found in the Operational plan in the foyer or in your induction pack on entry to the group.] Alternatively: you may contact the Ofsted complaints Helpline. St Nicolas Preschool is run by an elected committee of parents, which ensures that major decision-making is in the hands of the parents who use the group. The committee is responsible for annual reviews of both policy and practice, and for the employment and appraisal of members of staff. The policies are available to all staff and parents as part of our Operations Plan, found in the entrance foyer.
We are members of the Pre-School Learning Alliance who offer general support to preschool committees. We continue to update our training using Step into Training which is overseen by the local authority Early Years team. We continue to meet the highest OFSTED standards with Outstanding results in our last inspection 2015. The most recent report is available in the preschool foyer or on the OFSTED website.
Everyone is welcome and we actively encourage parental involvement, whether it is; on the committee, helping with fundraising, or being a
helper during a preschool session. Please note that younger siblings are welcome at these sessions.
The notice board in the entrance foyer is a vital means of communication regarding activities, planning and events - please read it regularly !
St. Nicolas Preschool is in partnership with St. Nicolas School Foundation Stage. This is run by a Joint Steering Group which has a parent from each setting among its representatives. This partnership gives our children an opportunity to experience a school environment. Our links with the school encourage a smooth transition into school life.
Although we work closely with St Nicolas School, attending our pre-school does not guarantee a place at St Nicolas School. You will need to apply online, for more information please visit Oxfordshire School Admissions Online
